Intellectual Property Attorney – EE

Our client is a national law firm that has been named a 2021 Best Law Firm in Patent Law nationally and a 2021 Best Law Firm in Patent Law, Patent Litigation, and IP Litigation in Wisconsin by U.S. News Media/Best Lawyers. This outstanding firm has a unique succession planning opportunity for a patent attorney with an electrical engineering (or related) degree and experience. Due to the near future retirement of two notable attorneys, there is a substantially sized practice that this individual will eventually inherit.

This opportunity is located in vibrant and scenic Rockford, Illinois. Just 90 minutes from Chicago, Rockford offers big city amenities without the high cost of living as its much larger neighbor. Dubbed the “City of Gardens,” Rockford is known for endless parks and outdoor activities, as well as a lively arts scene and a multitude of restaurant choices. This family-friendly city’s housing costs are 24% cheaper than the national average, making this town an affordable place to raise a family.

Your Role:
As an integral part of the intellectual property practice, you’ll counsel clients, from global corporations to research universities, on protecting their patent and trademark portfolios. You will be involved with patent application drafting and prosecution, intellectual property due diligence, validity and infringement opinions and licensing.
You may also perform and supervise a full range of trademark services, including clearance, prosecution and international enforcement.
You will work directly with clients/inventors to ascertain claiming strategies and technical details about inventions and prepare recommendations and responses to US and foreign office actions.

Background Profile:
You have at least five years of patent prosecution experience, preferably within a national law firm.
You will have a degree in electrical engineering or in a related discipline.
Illinois bar is preferred; however, we will consider those that are not yet admitted to Illinois.
Relocation to Rockford, Illinois, is available to qualified candidates.
